Man Arrested For Shaw's Robbery Reports In Sharon, Stoughton, Canton

A Stoughton man was stopped in Post Office Square in Sharon after allegedly calling in another false robbery.

The man who allegedly called in at Shaw's Supermarkets in Sharon, and was arrested Thursday in Sharon after allegedly reporting another one.

Stoughton resident Lawrence McKee allegedly called 911 from the Tedeschi Food Shops on Pond Street in Sharon reporting a robbery at the Shaw's in Sharon's Shaw's Plaza on South Main Street, Sharon Police Chief J.J. McGrath told Patch in an e-mail Friday.

Sharon and Stoughton Police had received of false robberies at Shaw's recently. The supermarkets were at Shaw's Plaza on Washington Street in Stoughton, Shaw's Plaza on South Main Street in Sharon, and at Canton's Cobb's Corner Plaza, at the towns' border.

Thursday, Sharon Police responded to Tedeschi "as the suspect was leaving" toward Post Office Square, McGrath said. Sharon's Interim Fire Chief Dennis Mann reported seeing the suspect on Tedeschi's public phone as police received the 911 call, and Mann followed that vehicle in his vehicle, McGrath said.

Mann "waved down Sgt. (Stephen) Coffey (responding to the scene) pointing out the suspect's car," which Coffey pulled over on North Main Street at Post Office Square as other officers responded to the scene, McGrath said.

Police questioned McKee, who "admitted to the false calls," McGrath said.

Sharon Police arrested McKee, 50, of 59 Cottonwood Drive, Stoughton, on charges of disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, false report of crime and intimidation of a witness, McGrath said.

Thursday's incident happened at 2:50 p.m.

Stoughton Police Executive Officer Robert Devine said McKee will be summonsed to Stoughton District Court on multiple counts of disorderly conduct.

Earlier this week, Devine said his department has received “several” false robbery reports at Shaw’s over the last couple of weeks, including one at the Shaw’s on Washington Street in Stoughton and two at the Shaw’s in Canton at Cobb’s Corner.

Wednesday, reported receiving a 911 call around 12:50 p.m. stating a robbery was happening at the Shaw's in Shaw's Plaza, That report was proven false.
