Updated: Open Burning Season Starting in Canton

Residents can apply for permits at the Canton Fire Department.

It is that time of year again. The open burning season is set to begin in Canton on Sunday, January 15.

Open burning season for Canton residents will begin on Sunday, January 15 and run through May 1. Anyone interested in burning brush during this time must apply for a permit at , 99 Revere Street. There is no charge. The rules on open burning include:

  • No fires can be started before 10:00 a.m.
  • No fires can be started after 12 noon.
  • All fires must be out by 4 p.m.
  • All permit holders must call the Canton Fire Depertment to determine if burning is allowed that day. Weather conditions may prohibit burning. Call: 781 821-5095 xt.0
  • You may NOT burn GRASS, HAY, LEAVES, STUMPS, TIRES or LUMBER.
  • You may burn brush, cane, driftwood, forestry debris not from commercial land clearing.
  • Burning must be at least 75 feet from all buildings.
  • The fire must be attended at all times.
  • A water supply must be readily available to control the fire.
