Brown and Warren: Is It Just Politics As Usual?

It’s been an interesting week in the U.S. Senate Race between Democrat Elizabeth Warren and incumbent Republican Scott Brown.

First it was revealed that Harvard University once touted Warren’s marginal Native American heritage as proof of their faculty’s diversity. That story was followed up with another revealing one that Warren had listed herself as a minority professor between 1986 and 1995 in the Association of American Law Schools desk book, a major reference for legal professors.

On Tuesday it was revealed that Brown, who ran for office vowing to kill President Obama’s health care law (and who has since voted three times to repeal it) took advantage of a key provision in it: the provision that allows him to keep his elder daughter on his congressional health insurance plan.

Meanwhile, both candidates downplayed their wealth this week as they revealed their tax returns and as it was also reported that this race is the costliest in the nation so far.

So what’s your take? Are either hypocrites? Are both? And does it matter to you?

I do not think it is appropriate or possible to judge Elizabeth Warren based on her genetic background and the fact that she is willing to discuss it. She will probably be a strong advocate for native Americans, which is good! I grew up in the Mystic area of CT where the reservations were a place where native American heritage was celebrated before and after the introduction of the casinos. Tribe membership was not determined by the color of skin, but genetic makeup and ancestry. Tribal heritage was celebrated by people with all shades of skin. Scott Brown, on the other hand, should be judged on his votes, not on his willingness to participate in gov't programs that already exist. -He frequently votes against his party, particularly on social issues, like gay rights and abortion, that are important to people in eastern Mass. -He has supported legislation that infringe on the constitutional rights of all Americans in the name of so-called national security, and has emailed me that he will support the CISPA bill, which demolishes our 4th amendment rights to freedom from unreasonable search and seizure . -His deadfast support for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is contrary to his platform of eliminating wasteful spending. This aircraft will end up being the most expensive weapons program in the history of the military (1.5 Trillion $$!!) and it's utility is already being questioned by many military experts as other cheaper weapon systems do its job better.

The fact remains that Warren abused the system & falsly claimed she was a minority! I am part Cherokee & was NEVER allowed to use that status without PROOF!! She has none...high cheekbones is not proof!! Wow...or should i say...HOW!! She's a far left activist with twisted policies. My family & I will stick with Scott!!

They are both Democrats, Brown is a Republican In Name Only. The only difference is, he is willing to vote to repeal Obamacare. Given two bad choices I am all for the candidate willing to repeal Obamacare too.

As an independent who has never voted Republican I voted for Brown in the last election and would be happy to do so again. Brown votes based on the issues and his conscience not based on what vote will curry him the most favors, perks, etc. Warren has proven herself to be a joke and should just bow out of the race or the Dems won't have a prayer of winning. It'll be interesting to see how her ego and self interest will supersede the needs of her party which will be to have a really strong candidate against a popular incumbent. As someone that wants Brown to win I couldn't be happier she's too egotistical to step down. Good Luck Scott!

Elizabeth Warren should be the next Senator from Massachusetts- first, as far as claiming to be a Native American, she never benefited from that status, on her job applications she indicated she was white. Secondly, the Massachusetts Health Care System is already in place we will not see any difference when the Affordable Health Care Act becames fully implemented, Right now, the country is emerging from one of the largest manipulations of cash by Wall Street in history. Trillions of dollars have been stolen through fraud. Elizabeth Warren has been studying the economics of Wall Street, she set up the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau. Wall Street is fighting it tooth and nail because the disclosures for financing being put in place will save consumers Billions of dollars. Those Billions normally would be in the pockets of Wall Street.

I would not hire her to clean my toilets. The problem with this country is that we let these MORONS run the show when they cant even back up their own lie's, and what worse is that there are even more morons who follow these idiots off the cliff. Obama is an idiot Romney is an idiot and so are the next people after them.

Is there possibly a more adult level of language that could be used in discussing this? I am amazed at the lack of restraint in these comments. Why so much anger? I assume both candidates have good and bad points and likable human qualities. How about showing the same?

Hey Ryan, you dropped your thesaurus.
