Canton Expecting a Quiet Town Election with Uncontested Races

Residents can meet the candidates tonight at the library.

There are no contested races in this year’s , but residents are still able to meet the candidates at tonight at the Canton Public Library. The 6:30 p.m meet and greet is sponsored by the Blue Hills Civic Association.

The town is not expecting a large voter turnout for the April 5 Annual Town Election.

Last year’s Annual Town Election “generated an anemic four percent voter turnout,” Tracy Kenney said. “We expect to see more of the same this year, having no contested races on the ballot that might encourage greater voter participation.”

For the Board of Selectmen, which has two spots open, , the current chair, and , a current selectman, are both seeking reelection for another three-year term on the board.

Elisabeth Salisbury and Jill Stevens are both seeking reelection for the two, three-year spots.

Julie Goodman is seeking reelection to the one opening with the Board of Health; Christopher J. Connolly is running for reelection for the one, three-year position on the Planning Board; Daniel J. Flood is running for reelection for the one, three-year Board of Assessors position; Glen Hannington is running for reelection to the single, five-year Housing Authority position; and Susan Cogliano, George T. Comeau and Dorothy M. Shea are all seeking reelection to the their three-year positions as Trustees to the Canton Public Library.
