'Upscale Asian Restaurant' Coming to Canton

The restaurant is slated to open at Cobb's Corner in the former Talbot's storefront sometime in the spring.

Canton Gourmet has a plan, and a permission, to open at Cobb's Corner in the former Talbot's location. Selectmen have approved an all-alcohol license for the establishment.

The owners, who have similar restaurants in Boston, Framingham and Swampscott, plan an "upscale Asian cuisine." That translates to a sushi bar, hibachi tables and a sit-down dining room. The menu will blend Japanese and Chinese dishes.

If the license receives approval from the state's Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, the owners will request from the town a common victualler license and building permits.

Selectmen have changed the parking pattern on Ames Avenue and approved a liquor license for a new restaurant: Parking will be allowed on only one side of the short downtown street now.

"It's tough to get an emergency vehicle down there," Police Chief Kenneth Berkowitz said.

The town must advertise the change before posting "No Parking" signs.
