Congressman Lynch Covers Debt, Economy and War at Curry College Forum

Congressman Stephen Lynch discussed a wide range op topics during his recent visit to Curry College.

addressed an audience of his constituents and answered a range of questions at a Town Hall forum on Thursday, May 19, at in Milton. Lynch's appearance was part of a series of forums around the Ninth Congressional District, including Canton.

In his prepared introduction, Lynch laid out the "landscape in Washington." He began with the next fiscal budget and also discussed his desire to raise the debt ceiling.

Lynch continued his remarks with a statement on the U.S. military involvement in what he considers three wars — Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.

"I have heard no viable reason for why we're in that theater," said Lynch of the country's role in Libya.

The Congressman ended his introduction by touching on his desire to make gas prices more affordable.

When the floor was opened to the public, several residents asked Lynch about the Glass-Steagall Act and the bank bailouts. Lynch acknowledged the value of the program when it was enacted in 1933, but dismissed the notion it be brought back as a solution to today's issues.

Lynch also fielded questions on military spending, corporate taxes and the redistricting of Massachusetts.
