Former Gov. Mitt Romney Tops GOP Presidential Field in Canton's Primary

As results of the state-by-state between frontrunners Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum rolled in from across the country on Tuesday night, a nearly inevitable outcome quickly emerged in Massachusetts and in Canton: the former Bay State governor dominated GOP voting.

took 1,257 Republican votes in Canton. In contrast to the heavy focus elsewhere – i.e. the tight and hard-fought battle for Ohio – Canton's polling locations were quiet on Super Tuesday, even during the typically busier after-work hours.

According to , Canton had a 16 percent turn out, equalling 2,086 ballots cast.

"I'm not impressed by it," Kenny said. But "given that the Democratic ballot had no races on it, there was no incentive" to get out and vote.

On the Democratic ticket, President Obama earned 367 votes in Canton.

The results of the Town Committee race in Canton have not been totaled yet, according to Kenny.
