Highlights from the Canton Board of Selectmen: Liquor License, Sidewalk Dining and New Auto Sales

The Canton Board of Selectmen discussed several issues including adding a liquor license to Homeward Suites and sidewalk tables to Chubby Chickpea.

At this week's meeting in Canton, members discussed proposals to add a liquor license to a hotel, outdoor seating to a downtown eatery and a new car lot.

  • The board approved a liquor license for the soon to open Homewood Suites, the extended-stay hotel in town. This will allow the hotel to serve beer and wine by the glass to hotel guests during dinner. The license is only for beer and wine offered by the glass during the complimentary dinner, Monday through Thursday.
  • There is a new car dealership coming to town. On Tuesday, the Board of Selectmen approved a new class two dealer's license for Autocarsmart Sales and Leasing. The new car lot will be located at 354 Turnpike Street, the site of the old Enterprise car rental, Owner Larissa Voronova said. Canton will now have it's own "auto half-mile," Chairman John Connolly noted.
  • Fans of the may soon be able to enjoy lunch outside. The restuarant's owner, Avi Shemtov, presented an outdoor seating proposal to the board. Shemtov wants to put two small tables and chairs outside the Washington Street restaurant in the warm-weather months. After several discussions about policy and liability, the board agreed to send a letter of support recommending the proposal and asking for a temporary permit to the Zoning Board of Appeals. "I'm in favor of having this start sooner, rather than later," Selectman Victor Del Vecchio said. It will bring vibrance to the downtown and "I'd like to encourage this," he said.

The next Board of Selectmen meeting is Tuesday, July 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall.
