Highlights from the Canton School Committee: Memorial Field Renovations and Changes to Graduation

The Canton School Committee met Thursday night at CHS.

Folks will see some improvements to Memorial Field this summer and possibly some changes to Canton High's graduation next year. The met Thursday night and discussed both issues. Here are a few highlights from the meeting:

  • Canton High presented the proposed changes to Memorial Field to the School Committee. Erickson asked for the committee's "blessing in moving forward with the improvement project at upper Memorial Field this summer." The reonvations include enclosing the press box, replacing the scoreboard and replacing the public address system. Canton Community Bank is donating the scoreboard, Erickson said. The board approved the request.
  • The School Committee also asked CHS Principal Dias to form a group to discuss possible changes to . The ideas for changes included moving the to a weekend day to allow more families to attend, and possibly moving the venue to the gym. "It would be very valuable to get a group together soon," especially recent graduates, to discuss graduation, School Committee Member Reuki Schutt said.
  • Wellness Director presented the final, revised Bullying Prevention Policy to the committee. The committee accepted the revised version, which will now be submitted to the state for approval.
  • Students at will have the chance to participate in a Spanish Exchange Program this coming school year. The School Committee approved the program, which will allow about 20 students to travel to Madrid and Malaga, Spain, for 15 days in April with CHS faculty. The exchange includes taking classes at a Spanish school.
  • The Committee also spent the first hour of the meeting listening to presentations from the Canton Teachers Assocation on contracts and salary negotiations. to read the full story.
