Canton School Committee Sets $365,000 Budget for FY 2013

The Canton School Committee approved a capital budget for next year and long-term debt.

New desks at the Luce School, Mac computers, music stands and painting the school buildings are all included in the for Canton Public Schools.

At Thursday's nearly four-hour long Canton School Committee meeting, the committee approved a cash capital budget totaling $365,000. After spending several weeks combing through budget requests and making cuts in order to come in on budget, the committee approved the final budget last week.

The upcoming school year's budget includes $30,478 for weatherization of school buildings; $6,5550 for playground materials for all schools; $31,272 to replace Apple video work stations; $31,468 for furniture and fixtures for the JFK addition; $12,224 for replacing classroom doors at the Luce; and $38,249 to replace a 1991 Ford F350 truck that is used by the schools for snow plowing and maintenance. The School Committee also approved $865,950 in Long-Term Debt for FY 2013. This includes replacement of windows at the Hansen and Galvin schools and HVAC improvements in all of the schools.

The School Committee is meeting again on Thursday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Canton High.
