Updates from the Canton School Committee: Cash Capital, CHS Parent Info Night

The school committee is meeting on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.

The will be reviewing capital budget requests for the upcoming fiscal year at Thursday’s meeting. According to Superintendent of Schools Jeff Granatino, the committee started to review the requests earlier this month.

The committee has $365,000 in the budget for cash capital projects, but $1 million in requests, he said.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, the committee will be discussing Annual Town Meeting warrant articles. The committee has until January 3 to submit them.

  • In other school news, the is donating fees they collect from non-customers who cash in spare change. The bank will donate the fees to Canton High for one year, according to Granatino.
  • The residents at Orchard Cove will once again be teaming up with elementary school students in town. The senior citizens will be tutoring in the classrooms, according to the superintendent.
  • The Canton School Committee updated the hazing policy by adding in a copy of the state law to the Canton High School handbook, according to Granatino.  The policy has not changed, but the state law will be added into the handbook, he noted.
  • On Wednesday night, December 14, at 6:30 p.m., there will be a new student, parent information night at Canton High School. All eighth grade parents are invited to attend the presentation, which will include tours of the high school and presentations from faculty and staff.  The event will take place at the Canton High auditorium.
