Canton Patch Athlete of the Week: Meghan Lennon

Meghan Lennon excels at teamwork.

MEGHAN LENNON – Junior Forward

NAME OF TEAM: Canton High School Girls’ Soccer Team

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: “Meghan’s work ethic is second to none. She leads by example and is a wonderful teammate and friend with outstanding leadership qualities and a total team player. She excels at three sports, in the community and in the classroom and has earned total respect from her peers, teachers, coaches and school. “Our team is successful because we are very balanced and we dictate the play with possession of the ball and great team chemistry. I’m just a small part of it and I will continue to work hard and do what ever I can to help the team and if I lead by example than all the better. WHY IS SHE THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK?: Meghan has led the Canton High School Girls’ Soccer team to a perfect 10-0-1 start. She is among the team’s leading scorers with eight goals and six assists and is the team leader on the field both on offense and defense. Her tireless effort and unselfish play helps to keep everyone involved in the team’s enormous success. Meghan is great under pressure as most of her points have come in very close games and at crucial times.

FAVORITE CAREER ATHLETIC MOMENT: Meghan is a star hockey and lacrosse player along with soccer and has played all three sports on the varsity level since her freshman year. Her favorite moment was as a freshman she helped to lead the soccer team to a Hockomock League title and a berth in the South Sectional Final game.

STATISTICS: Meghan had nine goals for the soccer team, a year ago. Last season she tallied 21 goals for the hockey team and opened the eyes of everyone statewide with an incredible 52 goals, as a sophomore, for the lacrosse team.

FUTURE GOALS: Go to college and excel in the classroom and play sports.

OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL: Meghan is involved with her church, youth organizations and the National Charity League (for mothers and daughters). Meghan also enjoys spending time with her friends and family. Meghan has three siblings, all also great soccer players, as well. Her older brother TJ graduated Canton High School in 2011 and now attends Northeastern. TJ helped lead the Canton Boys’ Soccer team to both a Hockomock League and Division-2 South Sectional Title, a year ago. Meghan is a triplet and her sister Mary is a teammate on the soccer team and her brother Matt has been a top player for the boys’ team.

OTHER INTERESTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS: Meghan is a member of the Student Council and is an Honor Roll student.

FINAL NOTES: Congratulations to Meghan Lennon on her success on the soccer field. Also she should be commended on being a three-sport student athlete, a wonderful teammate, and a leader both on and off the field.
