Attleboro Boys Hoop Team Falls to Canton

The Attleboro High Bombardiers struggled to contain the Canton Bulldogs offense and lost a crucial Hockomock League encounter, 69-65, Wednesday night.

The Attleboro High Bombardiers lost their fourth straight game on Wednesday night against the , 69-65. The loss puts their hopes of qualifying for the postseason in jeopardy.

Attleboro were beaten at their game as the Bulldogs knocked down nine three-pointers and consistently beat the Bombardiers on the perimeter. Canton also turned Attleboro turnovers into fast-break points while handling the aggressive Bombardier defense.

Attleboro Head Coach Mark Houle was disappointed with the way his team defended the three-point line while giving credit to the Bulldogs' shooters.

"They did a good job of getting open shots and we didn't do a good job fighting through screens," said Houle. "They did knock down the shots, to their credit, but some of them were more open then we would have liked."

Senior captain Joe McCabe led all scorers with 17 points but the Bulldogs finished with four players in double digits even without the injured Sam Larson, the team's second-leading scorer.

Canton Coach Ryan Gordy was pleased with the way his bench stepped up and provided offense.

"Our bench has become much more deep as the season has gone on and they have really developed into a solid second unit," said Gordy. "That's helping us make that push right now."

J.J. Jolaoso led the Bombardiers with 16 points, 11 in the fourth quarter, including two three's off glass in the final minute that made the score closer. Chris Walsh started off on fire with 10 points in the first half but had only one free throw after the break.

"We started the game well and got the ball inside, but then we got away from it and were inconsistent the rest of the way," said Houle. "Unfortunately, that hasn't been our strength all season and we certainly should've done a better job inside."

Anthony Bires had 15 points, Scott Levy had 14, and Chris Murray 11 (eight in the fourth) for the Bulldogs. Matt Borgellas added 10 points for the Bombardiers (eight in the second half) and sophomore forward E.J. Santarpio totaled eight.

The Bombardiers (6-7) faced Kelly-Rex Division leaders Mansfield and King Philip last week and Attleboro will next play arguably the best team in the league when they travel on Friday night to take on Stoughton. Canton (8-4) will try to continue their strong play on Friday with a visit from Franklin.
