Cake Walk, Candy Walk, games and yogurt

The Hansen Elementary School will hold it’s Annual Fall Festival Saturday, October 15th from 10 am to 4pm at the Hansen Elementary School, 25 Pecunit Street, Canton.  This annual event, which occurs each October, is the school’s largest fundraiser of the year.  The festival will include some favorites such as the Cake Walk and Candy Walk, Inflatables and Games and some newly added attractions including a new “Design Your Own Craft” corner, new games and free Yasso Greek Frozen Yogurt tastings.

The annual festival is one of the many fundraisers that occur throughout the school year and organized by the Hansen CAPT (Canton Association for Parents and Teachers). CAPT is an organization run by the parents and teachers of the Hansen School. The CAPT’s purpose is to provide financial support to the Hansen School community to enhance the education of the Hansen community. In addition to bringing in enrichment programs for grades 1-5 (examples include The Science Guy, Presentations from Historical Perspectives like Amelia Earhart and many others), the organization also strives to assist the school's faculty in securing materials and experiences for our children above and beyond those typically encountered in school.

The fundraiser is organized by Sharon Stemm, CAPT’s new VP of Fundraising.

“CAPT is basically parents and teachers working together to raise money for programs that our tax dollars do not pay for within the school,” Stemm said.

Some examples of where CAPT money has been put to work within the Hansen Community most recently include the purchase of 3 new basketball hoops for the Hansen Playground as well as the purchase of new equipment for the classrooms. CAPT also helps to pay for field trip transportation, playground maintenance, teacher reimbursements and strives to meet many of the other vital needs of the Hansen School community throughout the year.
