Canton High's Class of 2011 Seniors Receive Awards and Letters

Seniors received awards at Canton High last week.

The auditorium at was filled with parents, teachers and well-wishers as the entered the hall, fresh from the Senior Banquet.

With a nod to the approaching Bruins game, Athletic Director Dan Erickson got down to business quickly, welcoming all to what he described as “Part 2” of the Senior Banquet. 

He introduced Frau Nicoloviuse to present the awards for achievement in German.

She told the seniors “that a new phase of their life will open up tomorrow, after graduation, and that she hoped all their dreams would come true.”

Six students received a book, and a certificate for outstanding achievement, signed by the Counsel General of the Federal Republic of Germany.  In addition to these six students, those who went to with Frau Nicoloviuse were also recognized.

Erickson returned to the podium to a warm round of applause.

He congratulated the and commended them on the impact that they made at CHS and the great heights that they had achieved for the smallest school in the League. He highlighted that 119 of the 202 students in the class earned at least one Varsity letter.

The Class of 2011 led the following teams to post-season tournament play during their senior year:

  • Cheerleading
  • Field Hockey
  • Boys Soccer
  • Girls Soccer
  • Volleyball
  • Boys Basketball
  • Girls Basketball
  • Boys and Girls Ice Hockey
  • Wrestling
  • Softball
  • Baseball
  • Boys and Girls Tennis
  • Boys and Girls LAX

The Boys Soccer and Field Hockey Teams both won .

The Class of 2011 led five teams to the Hockomock Davenport Championships and Field Hockey, Boys Soccer, Volleyball, Boys Hockey and Girls LAX went on to win Classic Cups.

represented the very best of CHS track and field when he competed in the New England Championship- placing 11th in the 100 meter dash.

Michael Counterman received a plaque in recognition of all of his hard work as the voice of the Bulldogs over the past several seasons. He did a tremendous job calling games for local television.

Scholar/Athletes were recognized for their individual achievements.

The “Sportsmanship Cup” was awarded to Nickie Lomas and the “Spirit Cup,” which is voted on by the class of 2011, was awarded to .

The Paul Callahan Award went to Mike Charles, the Captain’s Award-Male to Matt Nichols and the Captain’s Award-Female to Anna Amico.

The coaches came to the podium for the varsity letter awards and the students were called one by one to receive their letters and pins, along with a certificate from their coaches.
