Canton Patch Athlete of the Week: Isaiah Teixeira

This week's spotlight shines on Blue Hills senior running back.

Student: ISAIAH TEIXEIRA – Senior Running Back

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: “Isaiah isn’t only a very talented football player, but a great team leader and most importantly a polite and considerate young man. He combines power, agility and speed and can change directions making him very tough to bring down. Isaiah is very unselfish and very coachable both on and off the field. He is an excellent student. “There is a lot of tradition that goes with Blue Hills’ football and players know that and take it very seriously. We have great coaches and teachers and my teammates, especially my offensive line, are all big reasons for my success. I’m very proud that I’m a part of this team and the winning tradition. I also want to thank my family for its support and always being there for me.” –Isaiah Teixeira.

WHY IS HE THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK? Blue Hills is undefeated, with a perfect 6-0 record. The Warriors have outscored their opponents 216-22, with four shutouts in the first six games and averaging 36 points per game Blue Hills has a very talented offensive backfield. Past Athlete-Of-The-Week, junior running back Vincent Burton, senior running back Jordan Rotman and senior quarterback John Curran comprise one of the best and deepest backfields in the entire state. Texeira, along with Burton, are both attempting, for a second consecutive season, to rush for over 1000 yards, help the Warriors win another Mayflower League Title and earn another Superbowl appearance.

Isaiah is also being saluted for returning kicks and being unselfish in a changing role of becoming more of a blocking back at only 5’8”-185 pounds.

FAVORITE CAREER ATHLETIC MOMENT: 2010 Superbowl when he scored the tying touchdown.

STATISTICS: In his Junior Year, Isaiah had 162 carries for 1056 yards, over 6.5 yards per carry.

FUTURE GOALS: To play college football and then go into the medical field.

COLLEGE CHOICE: Isaiah will go to prep school at Wilbraham-Monson and then hopefully attend Morgan State University in Maryland.

NEXT UP: October 28 at home in a first place battle against Diman on a Friday night under the lights.

WHATS ON YOUR IPOD: Isaiah listens to all types of music, but especially enjoys rap and hip-hop.

OTHER ACTIVITIES: Isaiah enjoys working out and likes to box. He also is a member of the Spring Track Team at Blue Hills and utilizes his speed by running the 100 and 4x100.

OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL: As a student in the Health Occupation Field, Isaiah has compiled a 3.0 Grade Point Average and has now become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Isaiah spends a lot of his time volunteering in nursing homes and hospitals. Isaiah also enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

PERSONAL: Isaiah was born February 12, 1994 and lives with his mother, Marie, stepfather, Ben, and brothers Eric and Eli.
