Canton Patch Athlete of the Week: Vincent Burton

A junior at Blue Hills Regional, this student is all-around player.

NAME: Vincent Burton

NAME OF TEAM: Blue Hills Regional High School football team

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: “He’s only a junior, he is very coachable and is a great kid and he is willing to listen and learn. We’re fortunate to have him on the team,” said Blue Hills Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Ed Catabia. “He has great ability and can break tackles and follow blocks from our very talented offensive line and he’s always very thankful to his teammates and coaches.”

THE DEAL: Vincent Burton is a 6’2”-190 pound running back for the Warriors. A year ago, as a sophomore, Vincent ran for over 1,500 yards, helping to lead his team to a Mayflower League title and a . In the season opener against East Boston, he picked up from where he left off last season, leading his team to a 24-0 victory. Vincent is part of a dynamic duo running back tandem with senior and fellow 1000-yard rusher Isaiah Teixeira, (who we’ll also talk about at a later date.)

FAVORITE CAREER ATHLETIC MOMENT: A year ago at East Boston when Vincent scored five touchdowns in a solid and one-sided victory by his team over a very highly-ranked opponent. “That win over East Boston, last season, seemed to get us going and we rode it to the Superbowl. I hope the same thing happens this season,” said Vincent.

STATS: Vincent started this season, this past week, gaining 152 yards, scoring all three of his team’s touchdowns and also rushing for a two-point conversion.

FUTURE GOALS: To play college football and if he can’t, then continue his good grades and get a quality education. “My education is a very high priority for me,” said Vincent. “I know that there is more for me to sccomplish outside of football.

NEXT UP: The next game for Blue Hills is today, Saturday, September 17, at Case at 11:00 a.m.

WHAT’S ON HIS IPOD: Vincent enjoys a variety of music including rock, rap and hip-hop.

OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL: Vincent also is a top player on Blue Hills’ basketball and track team and is close to qualifying for the State Tournament with his javelin throw. Vincent also enjoys spending time with his friends.

FINAL COMMENTS: “I know I need to keep working on my game and increase my speed, weight and my talent level,” said Vincent. “I wouldn’t have any success without my offensive line and the rest of my teammates, all of them should also get the credit for any success I might have on the football field. The coaching staff prepares us very well each week and has helped to develop great team chemistry. This team is like a family, and there is a great atmosphere here at Blue Hills. There are many things and people here that give me a great opportunity to succeed.”
