Canton Takes Down Foxborough Wrestling

The Warriors can't handle the Bulldogs' ground game in the 38-24 defeat.

After competing in a quad meet over the weekend, Coach Brian Caffelle had one request for this team against Foxborough and that was to be more aggresive.

“We just stressed that we just need to be a little bit more aggressive and the kids did well,” said Caffelle.

With Canton competing with one of the best wrestlers in the 113 pound division in the state, Foxborough coach Jim Fraser moved everyone up a weight class in an effort to minimize the damage. Even with the move, the Warriors still lost to the Bulldogs 38-24.

The Bulldogs set the tone with two pins in the first two matches. Erika Snow defeated Derek Hass via pin in the second period of the 106-pound match. It didn’t get any better in the 113-pound match as Chris Sullivan earned a victory by pinfall over Foxborough’s Parker Feldman.

The Warriors finally got a victory in the 138-pound division when John Coleman only needed 15 seconds to pin Anthony Ross in the first period. Coleman, who usually wrestles at a lower weight class, was able to take advantage of a matchup against the younger Ross for the quick win.

“We had plan on that because their guy was really young,” said Foxborough Coach Jim Fraser

A pair of Canton forefeits in the 145-pound and 152-pound division gave Foxborough some free points but Josh Mat got them right back for the Bulldogs with a pin over Brandon Ryan in the 160-pound division.

Chris Parsons got a pin over Kyle Valanzola in the 170-pound division match with eight seconds left in the first period to give Canton another victory.

In the last match of the meet, Jack Shoener pinned Pat Vartanian in the 182- pound division match to end the meet with a Foxborough victory.

Winning only two matches, the Warriors couldn’t find their way off the mat and avoid pins. It was easy picking for a tough Bulldogs team.

“This one we just got completely out-toughed,” said Fraiser. “The seniors and juniors gotta win espically having a young team."

The Warriors are now 4-2 overall while the Bulldogs improve to 4-4.

The Warriors will be at King Philip on Dec. 22 while the Bulldogs will be at home against North Attleboro on the 22.
