Bunick had not been aware that Shawn McEachern, head coach for the boys varsity ice hockey team and “former NHL player… had nominated me” for the award that recognizes “enthusiasm, devotion and ability for the game of hockey,” he said.

The high school senior has played hockey for 13 years, and is co-captain of the lacrosse and cross country teams. As one of eight student advisors, Bunick is mentoring 13 freshman boys this year to assist in their transition into high school. In this role, he also works with faculty on “anything that needs to be improved at the school.”

“I love sports, competition, and being part of a team,” he said. It is the strong camaraderie that makes the players "for the season, like my brothers.”

While Bunick savors these two prestigious sportsmanship honors, he can also look ahead to joining a new team of brothers as a member of Babson College’s lacrosse team when he enters college in the fall.
