While high school nurtured his “love for the investigative process of science” it is Sheehan’s talent for math that provides the substance. In elementary school “I was just good at it [math] and liked it,” the senior said.
Sheehan’s eighth grade teacher nominated him to Martin Badoian’s Canton Math Team which is “well-known in New England."
Sheehan accepted the honor to study in Badoian’s honors level math program. Since students receive no extra credit, it is “kind of a risk you take,” he noted. A risk that paid off since “eighty-five percent of the class received 800 on their SAT scores,” the CHS senior said.
The oldest of three children, Sheehan works as a dietary aide for Hellenic Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center and started his own small business in ninth grade tutoring five to six students each week. His math tutoring quickly grew to include biology and Hebrew for bar mitzvahs.
As class president, Sheehan attends meetings and acts as a “liaison between students and the Committee." For four years, Sheehan has been part of the cross-country and basketball teams, co-captaining both this year.
“My Athletic Director [Danny Erickson] nominated me for the Scholastic Athlete Award. My favorite quality is jumping back and forth” between academics and sports, he said.
