Highlights from the Canton School Committee: Teacher Negotiations and Athletic Fees

Updates from the Canton School Committee.

Contract talks with the are still underway. Superintendent of Schools Jeff Granatino said the hope is to have negotiations settled prior to the start of the school year, but that may be difficult to do.

"We are having another negotiation session with the Canton Teacher's Association on August 30," Granatino said. "We hope to have positive talks and come to some type of conclusion."

The Canton School Committee discussed collective bargaining at Thursday's meeting.

At a , Canton public school teachers packed the room to speak out against possible changes. The teachers who spoke out all addressed concerns about changing the steps/salary increases for Canton Public School teachers.

Also at the School Committee Meeting, Athletic Director Dan Erickson presented the family cap for at the high school for the upcoming school year.

The cap is now $780 per family for the entire school year, according to Granatino.

Families that have multiple students playing multiple sports will be capped at the $780, although hockey and swim team members have separate facility rental fees, Granatino said.

The committee also introduced the newly hired principals of the John F. Kennedy School and Galvin Middle School and the new facilities director.

Bill Conard is the new principal at the Galvin, Kim Sefrino is the new principal at the JFK and Brian Lynch is the new facilities director for Canton Public Schools.
