A grant for Massasoit and fundraisers for the public schools

Massasoit Awarded $174,843 Vision Project Grant
Governor Deval Patrick recently announced the recipients of $2.5 million in funding through the Performance Incentive Fund (PIF), a competitive grant program designed to spur innovation in higher education settings. Through this program, eighteen Massachusetts public colleges and universities across the Commonwealth will receive state funding to supplement their base budgets to spur innovative programs and reward campus efforts to improve educational outcomes.

JFK Welcomes Author-in-Residence
Children’s book author Barbara O’Connor is author-in-residence for grade 5 at the . Students will work with O’Connor on her biography program later this month, and will have the opportunity to purchase an autographed copy of her most recent book at the Scholastic Book Fair, as well.

Galvin Wheel-a-bration
The will hold its fifth annual “Wheel-a-bration” fitness fundraiser on Thursday. This successful fundraiser has raised nearly $100,000 over the past four years. Students will choose from various activities that promote physical fitness, including biking, roller-blading, shooting hoops, walking or skateboarding. The activity will take place on school property for one hour. Students are obtaining pledges for this once-a-year event. For more information, contact lmcampbell1@verizon.net or careym@cantonma.org.

Hansen Carnival Saturday 
The Fall Carnival will be held on Saturday, October 15 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Hansen School. The event, sponsored by the Hansen CAPT, will include raffles and a silent auction, a cake walk and a candy walk, inflatables, a design-your-own-craft area and more. Support the Hansen and enjoy the carnival!

JFK Family Photo Day Sunday

All-Town Band Season Under Way
Canton Public Schools fifth-graders are welcome to join the All-Town Band. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 4:30 – 5:30 in the band room. The season began on October 5; students should contact their school band directors for more information.
