Elementary Concert Tomorrow Night

The auditorium will be filled with young musicians tomorrow evening for the Elementary Strings, Band and Chorus Concert. Performers will be in their concert finery (white dress shirts and black pants or skirts) and will take the stage at 7:00. Hear music for a spring evening and show your support for the Canton music department, too. 

Transportation Program Announced

Due to the reduction of state funding, the following transportation program will be offered to Canton Public School students for the 2011-12 school year. 

1. All kindergarten students ride without a fee.

2. Students in grades 1-6, who live more than 2 miles from the school they attend, will be transported without a fee (yellow form.)

3. Students in grades 1-6, who have to cross or walk on Route 138, will be transported without a fee (yellow form.)

4. Students in grades 1-6, who live 1-2 miles from the school they attend, are eligible to apply for the Pay and Ride Program (white form.)

5. Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to apply for the Pay and Ride Program (white form.)

6. Students in grades 1-6, who live less than 1 mile from the school they attend, can apply for the Pay and Ride Program (green form.) Because of the reduction of state funding, ridership cannot be guaranteed for all students who live less than a mile from school. Eligibility will be determined on a space available basis and ridership will be determined via lottery. 

Parents are requested to return all transportation information by this Friday, June 3. Forms are available here.

Canton High School Announces Student Council Election Results

The following students were elected as Executive Board for Student Council for next year: 

President: Shaina Forte

Vice President: Scott Levy

Treasurer: Kelsey Cummings

Secretary: Shachi Risbud 

Luce Field Day This Friday

students in grades 1-5 will participate in the annual Field Day on Friday, June 3, (rain date June 7.) Volunteers are still needed to help with Field Day. Please see the Volunteer Sheet for more information. For security reasons, there will be no spectators allowed at Field Day this year. 

JFK to Hold Annual Book Swap

librarian Nancy Mark has announced the annual end-of-the-year Book Swap. Next week (June 7-10) on their regular library day, students may bring in up to 10 books they no longer want. Books may be gently loved, but no board books or toys will be accepted. Then, the following week June 14-17, students may select up to the same number of books to take home during. The Book Swap is the last week the library is open, and all library materials must be returned or paid for by then. 

Blue Hills Regional Inducts new NHS Members

On Thursday, May 19, twenty-one new members were inducted into the William A. Dwyer Chapter of the National Honor Society at .

The faculty guest speaker was Barbara Adams, who spoke of the value of a Blue Hills education.  Her 32-year career at the school will conclude with her retirement at the end of the 2010-2011 school year in June.  

“Because of your thirst for knowledge, your strong character, your desire to help others and your strong leadership characteristics,” Adams told the inductees, “you will be able to compete and succeed. You should always be proud to say you are a graduate of BHR.”

This Friday, June 3, is the final day of classes for the Canton High School Class of 2011. Happy trails, seniors, and best wishes for a wonderful graduation ceremony on June 9!
