Canton Patch's Athlete of the Week: Olivia Murphy

This Canton High student is a star on and off the court.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Olivia Murphy, Senior at Canton High School

NAME OF TEAM: Canton High School

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: "Olivia is the sweetest and most humble, and caring person you want to know off the court," Canton Girls Basketball Coach Caitlin Jamiel said. "On the court she plays with a high level of intensity and a 100% effort at all times. She has a deep desire to win and will work harder than anyone. She is a leader and is very coachable and a great teammate. She has made my first year much easier with her help.”

WHY IS SHE THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Despite the team’s recent five-game  losing streak and injuries and being constantly double-teamed by the opposition, Olivia is averaging a double-double in points and rebounds, recording double digits in each category in every game. Olivia was a Hockomock League All-Star last season and is also an All-Star Volleyball and Softball (first base) player, as well. She is also the teams’ captain.

FAVORITE CAREER ATHLETIC MOMENT: This past Fall as a member of the Canton Girls’ Volleyball Team, Olivia helped to lead the squad to two post-season victories and a berth in the Sectional Semifinals.
