Prom Closet Offers Perfect Dress for a Perfect Day

The Canton Prom Closet sold gowns for $25 and raised funds for CHS.

was quiet at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning, but Jill Eckler found her perfect dress. 

“Most of our girls don’t role out of bed until noon on Saturday,” said Michelle Murphy, an event organizer and volunteer. “So we are expecting more business later in the afternoon.”

Chrissy Hartnett, a second volunteer added, “There is a lot of activity around town right now. We may do another Prom Closet later in the month.”

The cafeteria walls were lined with racks and racks of colorful gowns and dresses, all which had been donated last month by residents and folks cleaning out their closets. Each gown sold for only $25.

Who was or was not awake made no difference to Jill, her sister Katie and her Mom, Rose, as the family cleaned up , leaving the closet with the perfect dress for Jill’s sweet sixteen, and two others for Easter.

“The stores just don’t seem to have the choice,” said Rose. “We thought we would just come and see what was here, and there is a great selection, and they all fit perfectly!”

Proceeds from The Canton Prom Closet go to the 2011 All Night Graduation Party at Canton High School.
