Ready, Set, Play: Community Pitched in to Build New Luce Playground

New Luce playground in Canton opening next week.

The kids will soon be enjoying the newly finished . The Luce CAPT, the Luce Playground Planning Committee, Luce parents and teachers all pitched in July 16 to build the school playground. Over 40 volunteers constructed the specially-designed play space for the students during the community build, according to Luce CAPT Member Katie Colson.

Over the past school year, the committee raised a little more than $35,000 through , including a .

During the process, CAPT reached out the Luce teachers, special education teachers and therapists at the school for advice on what needs to be installed. This is important because "we have a really big special education population at the Luce," Eileen Chaput, Luce CAPT president, said. "We want to make sure we incorporate that (feedback) into the playground."
