The 2011-2012 season opener ended in an overtime loss to , despite the Eagles trailing by 11 points after three quarters.
Host Canton outscored Sharon 2-1 during the 4-minute overtime for a 43-42 victory Friday night.
Bulldogs senior forward Olivia Murphy's basket with 1:10 left in overtime proved to be the game-winner.
However, Sharon (0-1) missed three free throws during that frame, Eagles head coach Kate Horsmann said.
"If we make any one of those free throws, we win the game," said Horsmann, whose team went 5-for-10 from the line, but just 1-for-4 in overtime.
"In the overtime, we didn't do anything different. But one of the things, as I was telling the girls, when we do chalk talk in the huddle, we need to be able to execute that. And we clearly weren't able to do that."
Canton led at halftime, 23-16. The Bulldogs increased that lead to 11 points, 39-28, in the third quarter.
But, Sharon outscored Canton, 13-2, in the fourth quarter to extend the game.
"We finally made some shots," Horsmann said.
"In the first half, I think we were pretty impatient with our offense. We were getting open looks, but we were getting hurried and frantic."
The Eagles scored nine of those 13 points on three-pointers: two by sophomore guard Andrea Bender and one by classmate Lily Abarbanel.
Sharon sunk eight 3-pointers: five by Bender, who had a team-high 15 points; two by Abarbanel, who scored six points; and one by senior guard Jessica Shenkel, who had seven points. Sophomore guard Karlie O'Driscoll had 10 points.
Murphy led Canton with 13 points.
