Snow-Filled Winter Brings a Longer School Year in Canton

An extra four days need to be made up at the end of the year.

Although has given the region a small break with temperatures in the 50s and melting snow this past week, the National Weather Service is predicting two to four inches of powder today.

Thanks to the start of , there is no school today and no chance of a snow day for Canton public school students.

The district has already added four days to the school year in order to make up for the four snow days they have had to date this winter. The last day of school has been moved from June 20 to June 24.

“The overall amount of days we owe to snow is four,” Superintendent of Canton Public Schools said. “It is a little below the average” for the winter.

“We are hoping to get through the next few weeks without any issues,” Granatino said. “We will see what happens. Mother Nature sometimes throws at us (a storm) in March.”

All students will be making up the snow days except for high school , he noted. They will graduate on June 9, 2011 and will not be impacted by the snow days.
