Updates from the Canton School Committee

Making up a snow day, awards and next year's schedule.

Here are a few updates from the last Canton School Committee meeting. The next School Committee meeting will be held on March 30 at 7:00 p.m.

  • Canton Little League will be installing new lighting at the field at no cost to the town. The new lights should be delivered next week, Canton Little League President Bill Cohen said.
  • The Canton High School , Team SOS, are the state champions. The team, coached by Rene Hanscom, has a project that focuses on the dangers of texting and driving.
  • Four Future Problem Solver teams from Canton made it to the state finals, said.
  • Students at the will have to make up a day of school they missed due to an issue with a . “We have been informed by the state that we are going to have to make up that date,” Granatino said. He is waiting to hear from the Department of Education on how the district can go about making up that day. There is a possibility the Hansen School’s last day could be June 27, but the superintendent is hoping to “get creative and use a vacation day or weekend day” to prevent going further into the summer.
  • , director for Curriculum and Instruction, presented the 2011-2012 proposed school calendar to the board. The start of school in September will be after Labor Day this year, she said. The last proposed day of school is June 19, she said.
