Canton Boys Soccer Ties 1 On In Opener

Bloom's second half goal evens things with Canton.

The left Canton on Saturday night with a tie on its won-lost record, and a head coach who was very pleased.

Sharon senior captain Eric Bloom's goal at the 28-minute mark in the second half evened the score at 1-1, the final.

The match was Sharon's season opener.

"There's good ties and bad ties. This is a great tie," Eagles Head Coach Barry Kaye said.

"I'm very proud of the kids. They played great. Our motto this year is 'Play to win,' but we played hard.

"(Canton) hasn't lost here in three years. So, our goal coming in, we wanted to break the streak. We were close."

led 1-0 on Scott Levy's goal at the 27-minute mark of the first half.

Canton's offense pressured Sharon throughout that half.

However, Eagles senior keeper and captain Mitchell Goldenberg stopped numerous shots. The ones he missed were wide -- or a Sharon defender blocked it, with Levy's goal the exception.

"For the amount of dominance we had, the chances we had, I thought we probably should've put the ball in the net more," Bulldogs head coach Danny Erickson said.

However, "I thought it was a good high school game," he said.

"I thought it was back and forth. There were a lot of chances," said Erickson, whose team is 0-0-2.

"I thought Sharon played very hard, very well, with a lot of guts tonight. The game could've gone either way, I think."

Sharon plays twice this week, both at 3:45 p.m.:

Canton plays at Foxborough on Tuesday, and hosts Mansfield on Friday. Both are 3:30 p.m. starts.
