Canton Football Team's Rally Falls Short Against Stoughton

The Stoughton High football team held off a late minute challenge from Canton for a 28-20 win Thanksgiving morning in Canton. With their 10th win of the season, the Black Knights set a record for most victories in a season.
With the Black Knights leading 28-7 in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs mounted a comeback that went right down to the end of the game.
Bulldog quarterback Brian Hagan found junior Derrick Harris opened in the middle of the field for a 30 yard score with 3:16 left to go in the game, cutting the lead to eight points. Canton went for the onside kick, but there was an illegal touching on the play.Β 
It looked as the Black Knights were going to be able to run out the clock, but the Bulldogs' Joe Pires came up with a fumble recovery, giving the Bulldog one more shot to tie the game.
Working with Harris, Hagan went able to drive the ball down to the Stoughton 13-yard line.
With 1:24 left in the game, Stoughton's Jovani Pires stepped in front of a pass in the end zone for an interception. The Black Knights were the able to run out the clock to finish the season at 10-2.
On their first drive of the game, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Junior Sterlin Garvin went in from a yard out. Freshman Thomas Mongale kicked the extra-point. That lead stood up for the entire first half.
Stoughton took the lead in the third quarter. First, senior Lennox Green ran for a 44-yard score, breaking through the Canton defense. Frank Girolamo kicked the first of four extra points, cutting the lead to 14-7.
The Black Knights tied the score on a 28-yard by fullback Joe Girolamo before the end of the third quarter.
Stoughton head coach Greg Burke elected to go for the onside kick, which the Black Knights recovered.
Joe Girolamo gave the Black Knights the lead at the start of the fourth quarter with a 37-yard run.
Pries then upped the lead to 28-7 with a three-yard run, but the Bulldogs weren't done yet.
Garvin ran for a one-yard score to cut the score to 28-14.
