It was a different softball team out there Monday afternoon. For the first time this season, the Foxborough Warriors took control of the game early and did not look back. Playing their best ball of the season, the Warriors got a 5-0 win over the visiting s.
Foxborough’s strategy of tight base running paid off early. Already on second after a wild pitch, Joanna Magnusson scored the first run of the game off of a Chelsea Laracy hit. Laracy would score herself after a force out at first gave her enough time to give the Warriors an early 2-0 lead.
The Warriors continue to cause damage in the bottom of the third. Chelsea Laracy would get her second run of the game by stealing home on a wild pitch to make it a 3-0 game. Julia Robichaud would bat in another run to add to the growing lead.

Foxborough’s second run off of a wild pitch would come in the bottom of the fifth. Joanna Magusson would steal home to put the Warriors up 5-0 and give them their second stolen plate of the game.
Stealing bases often was a major part of the game plan for the Warriors. With five stolen bases and two of those steals being for runs, Foxborough is not scared to play a risky game of softball.

“They slap, they bunt, they run really well. For the most part we defended the bunt really well but they moved the runners along with the steal and they got the timely hit,” said Canton coach Ed Amico.
Canton had no problem getting on base, but struggled to get their runners home. With runners on the corners in the top of the fifth, the Bulldogs would succumb to a double play to end the inning. They would get two runners on in the top of the sixth, but Foxboro would once again find a way out of the jam.
Brenna Connoly pitched a solid game for the Warriors. Only throwing 63 pitches, Connoly took advantage of the swing-happy bulldogs.
“She moved the ball a lot. She kept the hitters off balance. Exacted what she needed to do to keep them in the game today,” Foxborough Coach Lauren Cucinatta said.
Despite not getting the result they wanted, there were signs of life from Canton. Olivia Murphy went 3-4 for the Bulldogs while her sister Julia Murphy went 1-3 and got on base twice.
“We had a lot of hits today. We’ve been having trouble stringing some hits together so they got some good hits. Played well in the field, not many errors. They’ve come a long way since the first game,” Coach Amico said.
While Canton continues to improve, Foxborough also continues to makes strides towards becoming a better team. Working hard in practice, the Warriors have come together to get a result that Coach Cucinatta was satisfied with.
“They are all hitting, they’re all base running correctly. Playing as a team is the biggest thing I saw help them with their hitting today,” Cucinatta said.
