Canton Patch Scoreboard: Bulldog Girls' Hockey Teams Beats Westwood

The Canton boys' basketball team defeated King Philip Friday night,

 

 

GIRLS' HOCKEY (14-2)-The Bulldogs edged out Westwood, 3-2, Saturday. Meaghan McKenna scored four goals to led the Buldogs to a 6-2 win over Mansfield/Oliver Ames, Wednesday at home. Meghan Lannon and Katie Kelleher had the other goals. Julie Nagel and Kelly Trenice each had two assists. Lannon, Casey Considine and Emily Lanci also had assists. Lindsay Nolte made 13 saves in net to get the win. The Bulldogs defeated Dover-Sherborn, 6-3, Saturday as Lanci and McKenna each scored three goals. Julie Nagle had two assists. NEXT GAME: They play Medway, Monday, Feb. 4, at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro at 8:50 p.m.

BOYS' HOCKEY (11-3)-Brian Brooks scored two goals to led the Bulldogs to a 7-0 win over Stoughton, Wednesday night. Brooks scored three goals in a 7-0 win over Foxborough, Saturday. NEXT GAMES: The Bulldogs will be hosting King Philip, Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. and will be playing at Mansfield Saturday in an 8:30 p.m.

BOYS' BASKETBALL (5-10)-The Bulldogs got back in the win column Friday night with a 50-41 win over North Attleboro. The Bulldogs lost to Oliver Ames, 60-49, NEXT GAME: The Bulldogs will be hosting King Philip Tuesday night.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL (2-12)-The Bulldogs dropped a 61-30 decision to North Attleboro Friday night. Bulldogs lost to Oliver Ames, 45-29, Tuesday. NEXT GAME: The Bulldogs will be traveling to King Philip Tuesday.

WRESTLING- The Bulldogs had two winners at the Hockmock League Championship in Franklin. Chris Sullivan won at 132-pounds, while Quinn Merrison captured the 138-pound title. Check out the entire results at Hockomock Sports.  The team jumped out to a 39-12 lead in a Hock matchup with Oliver Ames on Wednesday night, but an incredible Tiger run blanked the 'dogs for the remainder of the match, forcing a 39-39 tie for a final score. Reda Chakir's first varsity win was a big highlight for the Bulldogs. Canton will be at Stoughton Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match.

GYMNASTICS- The gymnastics team posted its highest team score of the season, 131.9, but it wasn't enough to overcome a very strong Sharon squad who scored 139.6. Stephanie Milne scored a season high 9.4 on the beam. The Bulldogs will face King Philip Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Metro South Gymnastics Academy. 

SWIMMING-The girls' swim team had a tremendous performance on Wednesday, in a 92.5-72.5 victory over visiting OA. The boys'  team fought hard but fell, 99-66. Tiffany Ha's 1:07.57 performance in the 100 backstroke was enough to qualfiy her for the States. The Bulldogs swept 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the 50 Free. Kim Frazier, Hailee Duerick and Brianna Duserick swimming tremendously well in that event. One of the highlights from the boys' meet was the 200 free relay team placing second, Kyle Hanscom, Yianni Papadopoulos, Christian Hobbs and Dan Lupo. 

TRACK-Last weekend saw many members of the boys and girls indoor track team put in some great performances at the MSTCA Elite Meet. Lauren Berman placed 5th with her best time of the year in the mile (5:13.01). Mellyn Costello ran her best race of the year in the 55 meter hurdles, running a time of 9.28. Obi Nwankwo and Craig Mills placed 11th and 16th in the 600 meters.
