Canton Resident Makes Strides in Fantasy Sports Event

Christopher Pearce placed ninth in the DraftKings $250,000 Main Event on Sunday, Dec. 23, to coincide with NFL Week 16.

It was a good holiday season for one Canton resident and fantasy sports fan.

Christopher Pearce was named a top-place finisher in the nationwide DraftKings $250,000 main event on Sunday, Dec. 23, according to an announcement Friday.

Pearce placed ninth overall in a pool of 1,400 contestants in the event, hosted by DraftKings, a daily fantasy sports website that offers a variety of contests for fantasy football, basketball, and baseball, among other sports.

The Dec. 23 event, a one-day fantasy football effort for NFL Week 16, provided a chance for players to use their interest and knowledge on sports statistics and enter to win a share of the biggest cash prize of any open event in fantasy sports, according to Friday's announcement.

Contestants were encouraged to take on the players sitting on top of the leaderboards during the event. First-place winners will receive $100,000, while the top 200 finishers will win cash.
