CANTON SPORTS SCOREBOARD: Volleyball to Face Melrose in Division 2 Semifinals Tuesday

The Canton High volleyball team will play Melrose Tuesday night at Billerica in a 7 p.m. start in the Division 2 state semifinals. The winner will advance to the state title game Saturday at Algonquin Regional in a 3 p.m. game.

Saturday, the Bulldogs defeated a past tournament nemis Medfield, 3-2, after falling behind 2-0 at Hudson High. Medfield won 25-18 and 25-22, before the Dogs rallied 26-24, 25-22 and 15-9 to win their first sectional championship. Standouts for the Bulldogs were Julia Murphy, 25 kills, nine blocks and three aces, Avery Devone, 17 kills and seven blocks and Jackie Bornemann, nine kills, two aces and 17 digs.

-The Canton High football team will go into the season finale Thanksgiving Day at Stoughton on a winning note after beating Oliver Ames, 36-30, in overtime Friday night in Canton. Shane Nordgren scored the winning touchdown on a five-yard run. Elias Camacho had two scores, while Dexter Green and Derrick Harris had the other touchdowns.

The Canton High cheerleading team has quafied for state championships. -The Canton High field hockey team was eliminated from the state tournament with a 2-1 overtime loss to Apponequet Friday in the Division 2 South semifinals.

-The Canton High girls' soccer team ended its season in the Division 2 South semifinals with a 2-1 loss in penalty kicks to Duxbury, Friday night in Duxbury. The Green Dragons will play Medfield, Sunday in Taunton at noon for the South title.

-The Canton High boys' soccer team lost to Medway, 2-0, in the Division 2 South semifinals Friday night in Duxbury. Medfield and Medway will meet Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Taunton High for the title.

-The Canton High boys' and girls' cross-country took part in the Eastern Massachusetts Division 5 race Saturday at the Wrentham Developmental Center in Wrentham. The boys were 21st overall. Kevin McNeil was the top finisher for the Bulldogs in 88th place in 18:30, followed by Joe Clancy, 94th, 18:38, and Scot Buresh, 96th, 18:44. The Canton girls' team was 11th.Β  Amanda Eagles was the top finisher for the Bulldogs in 20:54, while Kelsey Sayers was 59th in 21:44 and Catherine Song, 68th in 22:03.
