Fitz Helps Put Canton Legion Back at .500
The southpaw's six shutout innings, and Dan Friedman's 2 RBI, highlighted a 4-2 win over Foxborough on Thursday night.
Southpaw Jim Fitzgerald pitched six shutout innings as Canton American Legion Post 24 defeated Foxborough Post 93, 4-2, Thursday night at Foxborough High School. c
Foxborough scored both of its runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Steve Wholley walked to open the inning, scoring on Andy Bukuras' double to right-center one out later. Drew Briggs then walked, putting runners at the corners. Steve Nagle's sacrifice fly to center scored Bukuras, cutting Canton's lead to 4-2. But Canton rightfielder Matt Potts caught Aiden Farrell's bloop, ending the game.

Dan Friedman led Canton with two RBI.In the first, his two-out grounder past short scored Jake Fishman from second, putting Canton ahead 1-0. Fishman had singled to left with one out, and stole second with Friedman at the plate.
Friedman's double to left center in the fourth keyed a two-run inning for Canton. The hit followed Justin Rudy's inning-opening infield hit to short, and scored him. Drew Blake bunted Friedman to third. Brennan Sullivan followed Friedman by singling to short, scoring the runner for a 3-0 Canton lead.Canton scored its fourth run in the fifth. Foxborough caught Rudy, who was on first, in a rundown. Fishman scored from third on the play. Fishman had reached on a one-out forceout, then stole second, and took third when Rudy beat out a grounder to short.

Fitzgerald scattered three hits, walked one and struck out four. Foxborough righthander Adam Blake allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out six.
Canton (3-3) hosts Medfield at 5:45 p.m. Friday at Canton Memorial Field. Foxborough (1-5-1) hosts Franklin, also at 5:45 p.m.
