Boston Irish Festival Hitting Canton this Weekend

Éirinn go Brách in Canton!

The Boston Irish Festival has been going strong for 23 years, and this year they’re looking to break some records.

“Last year was the first year we tried to break the redhead world record,” said marketing coordinator Sinaed McLaughlin. “This year we’re going to try to get as many people with red hair in one place at one time and get a photo.”

McLaughlin said they will send the photo to the Guinness Book of World Records for the event.

Though the redhead record will be a feature of the festival, it’s just one small part of the three-day celebration of Irish culture. The festival, which started at Stonehill and has moved to Canton, has been a smorgasbord of Irish pride and presence in the Massachusetts area.

“It’s been brilliant,” McLaughlin said. “The festival calls for five stages for music, an Irish tea house, the Grafton Street Marketplace, an Irish language tent and kids amusements.”

McLaughlin said there will be hundreds of bands, both from the local area and from other countries. The Boston Irish Festival is the larges Irish festival on the East Coast.

The Festival will also be having a 5k road race on Sunday morning, a Tug of War competition and Irish football games on both Saturday and Sunday. For a complete schedule, visit www.BostonIrishFestival.info.
