Life is Good in Canton, Again

The two-day music festival is taking place at Prowse Farm this weekend.

For the second year in a row, life is good in Canton. Today and tomorrow, the l is bringing musical acts, games and fun to Prowse Farm. The music laden two-day fest, which drew 25,000 concertgoers last year, is raising money for children’s charity.

“We are thrilled to be back,” said James Macdonald, director of good vibes at Life is good, a Boston-based company.

“We can’t say enough about Canton,” Macdonald, a Watertown resident, said in an interview this week with Patch. “No city or town has been as cooperative and understanding as to what our mission is as Canton.”

Last year, the festival raised $725,000 and “this year’s fundraising goal is $1 million,” the Braintree native said.

All of the money raised at the two-day event and 100 percent of the profits go to the Life is good Playmakers, the company’s nonprofit. The nonprofit trains childcare workers across the world on how to work with children who have experienced some type of trauma, ranging from homelessness to violence to illness, according to Macdonald.

The charity “uses play to help heal these kids,” the director, a graduate of Curry College in Milton, said.

The Life is good festival allows the Playmakers to train 1,200 childcare providers.

“We will change the lives of thousands of kids through this one weekend,” he said.

This week, 1,800 volunteers turned Prowse Farm into the festival grounds. The all day weekend event from around the country, visitors from across New England, food vendors, games and family-friendly fun. The Life is good Festival is the company’s signature event of the year, according to Macdonald.

Life is good “is all about spreading the power of optimism,” Macdonald said. The company does this through product, fun events and fundraising for charity.
