The Bulldogs were led by Pat Ward who scored two goals.

The Canton High boys' lacrosse team was held to their lowest goal total of the season in a close win against Oliver Ames Wednesday afternoon to remain undefeated. The Canton boys beat OA, 3-2, in a hard fought, defensive game. “We started off slowly in the game and I think it took us a while to figure out this is a good team,” said Canton head coach Bill Bendell said of the Tigers. “The OA-Canton games are always great games.” The Tigers scored first in the first quarter before giving up two straight goals to Pat Ward before the end of the first half. “Pat didn’t have his best game," said Canton head coach Bill Bendell. “But he’s so clutch. He’s one of the best offensive players in the league. They were hard to come by, their goalie played…

Tragedy Mars First Boston Marathon

Patch editor gives a first-hand report from the Boston Marathon.

Monday, April 15 was my first time running the Boston Marathon. It was suppose to be a fun day focused on overcoming a strenuous 26.2-mile race, but once I reached the end, I was greeted with panic, caution and tears rather than high fives and celebrations.  Monday was a perfect day for a runner and spectator, it was sunny and warm with a cool breeze. It would be hard to find an excuse why anyone with the day off from work wouldn’t be in town to either watch the race, the Sox game or to grab a bite at a restaurant. I was running this marathon as a bandit. I had no official number and was nervous security or someone from the Boston Athletic Association would kick me out. Once I reached the start line, it was smooth sailing. I was full of …

Canton, Here Are Your Boston Marathon Runners

Here are the Canton runners registered in the Boston Marathon this year.

They run for all sorts of reasons: in memory of a loved one, to raise money for a cause ... and just to say, "I did it."  The 117th annual Boston Marathon takes place on April 15 this year, taking runners through the course that threads from the Hopkinton starting line to Boston. As it states on the official website, "the Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world's most prestigious road racing events. The Boston Athletic Association manages this American classic, which is sponsored by John Hancock Financial Services. The Boston Marathon has distinguished itself as the pinnacle event within the sport of road racing by virtue of its traditions, longevity and method of gaining entry into the race (via…
