Canton, Here Are Your Boston Marathon Runners

Here are the Canton runners registered in the Boston Marathon this year.

They run for all sorts of reasons: in memory of a loved one, to raise money for a cause ... and just to say, "I did it."  The 117th annual Boston Marathon takes place on April 15 this year, taking runners through the course that threads from the Hopkinton starting line to Boston. As it states on the official website, "the Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world's most prestigious road racing events. The Boston Athletic Association manages this American classic, which is sponsored by John Hancock Financial Services. Local Players Star as Wheaton College Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader

Standout local players were on the stage as the Wheaton College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Babson College.

The Wheaton College baseball team, ranked No.10 overall in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, swept a pair of New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) games against Babson College on Saturday afternoon at Sidell Stadium. The Lyons won game one, 11-2 (seven innings) and posted an 8-3 triumph in the nightcap.  Wheaton 11, Babson 2 (seven innings)  Junior Alec Palioca of Wrentham and King Philip Regional went the distance in game one for Wheaton allowing five hits, two runs (both earned), three walks and a season-high nine strikeouts. Canton High Team Earn Hockomock League Sportsmanship Awards

The Canton High boys' ice hockey and swimming teams were awarded sportsmanship trophies by the Hockomock League.

The Canton High School boys' ice hockey and swimming teams were recently awarded sportsmanship trophies from the Hockomock League for the winter sports season. Brian Brooks, Rich Nee, Pat Ward and Kyle Powers have been named Hockomock League all-star selections for boys' ice hockey. Mike Denehy was named an honorable mention selection. Obi Nwankwo was selected to the boys' indoor track team, while Craig Millis was named as honorable mention selection. For the girls' team, Lauren Berman and Mellyn Costello were girls' all-star selection and Amanda Eagles was an honorable mention pick.
