You Tell Us: Memorable First School Days?

Take a trip down memory lane.

The kids are either back in the classroom already or are starting school soon. So we thought it would be fun to ask what your memorable first school days were. What about your first day of high school? First day of seventh grade?  What made first school days memorable then? The smell of the air becoming crisp? Your new school clothes? Seeing all your friends and other kids you haven't seen? Meeting your new teachers and comparing class schedules with friends? And of course, what are some funny anecdotes you'd like to share? Discuss in the comments below.

Lunch Box Memories

Do you remember your favorite lunch box? Today's kids have as many options as ever but nothing will take the place of the Partridge Family or Scooby-Doo.

Lunch boxes have changed in design and shape over the years, but the basic idea is the same. Along with space inside for a cold drink, sandwich and snack, the cover is devoted to a favorite cartoon, character, TV show or movie.  That's why Justin Bieber and Darth Vader and Japanese cartoon characters are staring out at shoppers from the shelves of Target. Back in the '70s, the lunch boxes were aluminum. In the '80s, they gave way to plastic. Vintage lunch boxes now are highly collectible. They are displayed as collections in people's homes, and sometimes they get their own art gallery shows. (Yes, I've gone to one.) Do you remember a favorite lunch box? What was it? Have a picture handy? Share it with Patch!

Welcome Back, Canton Students

Canton students kicked off the new school year Tuesday.

Welcome back, Canton students! Summer flew by and the school year officially kicked off Tuesday in Canton. In their rain gear, the kids hit the school bus for the first time since June. Although the Galvin Middle School did not have power for the first few hours, it was a successful first day all around, according to Superintendent of Schools Jeff Granatino. The school had emergency lighting for the first few hours and by 9:00 a.m., power was restored, Granatino said at a Tuesday meeting. Also, despite power being out to the high school for several days due to Tropical Storm Irene, teachers and staff were able to prep their classrooms and set up for the new school year. Granatino said he was "proud of the work teachers and staff did. It …

Foxborough Charter School Looks Forward To January

New classroom building opens then. Classes start Tuesday in modulars.

Foxborough Regional Charter School students start the school year Tuesday, but will end the school year in a slightly different place. The school serves about 1,200 students from 20 area communities including Attleboro, Avon, Brockton, Canton, Easton, Foxboro, Mansfield, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Norfolk, North Attleboro, Norton, Norwood, Plainville, Sharon, Stoughton, Walpole, West Bridgewater and Wrentham. The new classrooms will replace the K-12 school's 26 modular classrooms. The charter school has had modular classrooms since 2004, adding more since then. The construction will delay the charter school's traditional …
