Canton Honors Veterans with American Legion Breakfast

Veterans, families and supporters attended today's Veterans Day Breakfast.

Canton came together on Veterans Day to honor those who serve and have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. At the American Legion Post's Veterans Day Breakfast, over 100 folks came out to support the vets and enjoy some pancakes, bacon and eggs. The annual breakfast, held at Canton's American Legion Post #24, is put on by the Veterans Department and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Veterans of all ages, family members and supporters attended today's event, which raised money for the town's Veterans Fund.  "It's a small way, but a way to honor the veterans," June Teague, the Ladies Auxiliary secretary and treasurer, said. Teague said her father, brother, and two sons are all veterans and the event was a nice way to pay tribute to their …

I hope this is the correct website and it must be. As a veteran I feel that the respect given to my father's memory is outstanding. The man had the well known problem of expenses to incur and was told to go to the VA to assist with the expenses. This was something that he refused. In is old age the medications were a burden, but he 'steadied the course'. To be at his funeral at a time our country…   more ›

Canton Council on Aging Thanks Volunteers

Center held their annual appreciation breakfast last week.

The Canton Council on Aging had their annual volunteer appreciation breakfast Wednesday, June 15 at the American Legion in Canton. Over 80 volunteers attended the event and enjoyed a delicious breakfast provided by Center Field's Bar and Grill and Suffolk Grill. Council on Aging Director Diane Tynan, with the Council on Aging Board and staff, thanked the volunteers for all of their work throughout the year. “Volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization and without your assistance we could not possibly provide all of the services that we do,” Tynan said. Several volunteers spoke about what the center means to them. The Council on Aging is a home away for home for many seniors, several said. With the new Federal Census results out, …

Memoirs from Motherhood: The Parenting Patch

True Story: A Real Mother's Day Breakfast

Why have plain old breakfast in bed when you can have breakfast in bed with your rambunctious toddlers instead?

Another Mother’s Day has come and gone. And this year it had me thinking about breakfast. What is it about this holiday and breakfast or brunch that seems to go together so well? We moms must really like us some breakfast.  Maybe it’s because we so rarely get to sit down and enjoy a nice balanced breakfast. Mother’s Day is an extra special day where you are much more likely to get one, preferably cooked by someone else. This year, I was treated to the ultimate in Mother’s Day celebrations – sleeping in and breakfast in bed. It made me think fondly of the many times my father would help my brothers and me in making breakfast in bed for our mom. I loved finding that bed tray that probably only got used one time a year and laying everything …

Hello Vanessa! i was treated to a memorable Mother's Day this year. My daughter Debbie and my step-daughter Trisha flew from Providence to Tampa to spend some time with me. Deb was only staying 4 days, Trisha 2 weeks. I was "kidnapped" by Debbie, on Sunday morning, and brought to Massage Envy headquarters. After an extremely relaxing Swedish massage, i was spirited away to Panera for a light …   more ›

Breakfast at Irish Cultural Centre A Big Success

First Annual Children's Breakfast draws big crowd to Canton-based Irish Cultural Centre.

Santa made a special apperance this week at The Irish Cultural Centre in Canton. This Christmas season, the ICC decided to host an Irish Breakfast especially for kids.  Featured at the breakfast were kid-favorites, like waffles and chocolate chip pancakes.  Adults enjoyed Irish Coffee and everyone enjoyed the live dance performances by Irish Step Dancers from the Brady Academy and Haley School of Irish Dance.  Hay rides were available as a great way to tour the 40-plus acres of hiking trails that the Irish Cultural Centre owns and maintains. The Irish Cultural Centre has been calling Canton their second home for over 15 years and hosts a wide array of Gaelic entertainment throughout the year.  With four sports fields, Celtic sports …
