Bulldogs Defeat Eagles Girls Hoop [VIDEO]

Canton's lady Bulldogs beat Sharon yesterday.

The first meeting between the Sharon and Canton high school varsity girls basketball teams ended in a host Bulldogs 43-42 overtime win. Canton won, 57-53, against Sharon High Tuesday night. Sharon opened the game with a 14-4 run, and then lost its rhythm. Canton held the Eagles to less than 10 points in both the second and fourth quarters. "I think what happens is we don't box out, and we weren't helping," Sharon Head Coach Kate Horsmann said. "We got some rebounds and we came down and we didn't run good offense. We were helter-skelter on our offense. We didn't get good looks." Sharon looked poised to win early in the fourth quarter. The Eagles led 44-40 entering the period and then sophomore guard Lily Abarbanel scored, increasing the …

Visiting Bulldogs win, 3-0.

Canton scored twice in the first half to beat the Sharon High School varsity girls soccer team, 3-0, at Sharon's Gavin's Pond Road fields on Friday. Canton junior Lauren Berman closed the scoring with 1:30 left in the game. "I think we won the second half," Sharon Head Coach Jon Lavien said. "They scored at the very end. But they're the number one team in the Hock, and to hold them to 3-0 isn't bad." Bulldogs (2-0) head coach Paul Turner said Berman's goal made Canton's lead comfortable. Canton High Ready for Some Football

The Bulldogs are ready to play this season.

Canton High School football holds a long and proud tradition. In the late 70s and 80s the Bulldogs dominated most of their opposition and even made Superbowl appearances. In the past decade, the team has had mostly losing seasons, has gone through several coaches and has suffered in the Hockomock League which is one of the toughest in the state. However, a program’s value cannot just be measured with wins and losses and that is why Canton football is still very-well respected. With obstacles including low numbers, high expenses and such a small school, the football team battles every week to the best of its ability and more importantly, with the respect of its opponents. This season, there are no guarantees of a Division title or winning …

Canton High's Boys Soccer Team Ready for Another Winning Year

Canton High's boys soccer team kicks off with a game today.

The Canton High School Boys Soccer team and Coach Dan Erickson have built a winning tradition. The team has advanced to at least the Division-2 South Sectional Semifinals in each of the last five years and to the Sectional Final in 2007. Last season, the Bulldogs went further than ever before by capturing their first sectional title and Erickson was awarded as the Boston Globe’s Division-2 Coach-Of-The-Year. Canton did lose in the state finals to a powerhouse Concord-Carlisle team, but it didn’t take away from the team’s incredible accomplishments that included the regular season Hockomock Davenport Division championship, the First Annual Classic Cup Title, The South Sectional title and the Hockomock League Sportsmanship Award, which …

Softball: Canton Falls to Stoughton, 4-0

Black Knights beat the Bulldogs in Monday's game.

The first time the Stoughton High and Canton High softball teams met, Stoughton came away with an 11-6 win, aided by multiple Canton errors. In the rematch, the Canton defense was more sound, but the Bulldogs’ bats couldn’t string enough hits together against Stoughton pitcher Jess Olans, losing to the Black Knights 4-0 at home Monday afternoon. Pitcher Jess Olans led Stoughton, tossing a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits and two walks over seven innings, while striking out two. She helped her own cause at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI. “She did an awesome job," Canton Coach Ed Amico said of Olans’ performance. “She mixed up her pitches well and her placement was great.
