Canton Fire Department Helps Train Athletic First Responders
Canton coaches and parents attended the second CFD training.
Parents and coaches gathered at the Canton Town Club Thursday night to improve their first responder skills and increase their awareness of athletic skills. During a two-hour workshop, sponsored by the Canton Fire Department and Signature Healthcare's Brockton Hospital, 30 coaches and parents learned some necessary skills to treat an injured athlete. "It's really the only time they get formalized training," Canton Fire Chief Charles Doody said of the local coaches. Unless a league requests CPR/First Aid certification, league coaches do not have to be certified, the chief said.
