How the MIAA Responds to Snow Cancellations

Heavy snowfall has seen many sports postpone games, events this winter.

With one blizzard, two Nor'easters and plenty of storms this winter, several Massachusetts high schools have been forced to postpone after-school sporting events, including Canton High. When school is cancelled in Canton, all after-school activities are cancelled, too, including sports. An Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) spokesman, however, said that the state's teams should not have much trouble preparing themselves for postseason play despite the weather. "We've been down this road before and we've been okay," Paul Wetzel said. Wetzel recalled a recent spring sports season that forced several postponements in baseball and track and field. Two-Day Snow Storm Brings Cancellations

Several Canton events are cancelled due to the snow.

February's first snow storm is bringing cancellations galore. Tonight's Board of Selectmen meeting is cancelled, Temple Beth Abraham's Evening Minyan is cancelled, Temple Beth Abraham's religious education is cancelled, the library's Great Decisions Discussion is cancelled. The Canton Public Schools Kindergarten registration has been postponed until February 9, and the Canton Public Schools had an early release today.  All after-school sports and activities are also cancelled for today. This two-part storm is expected to bring up to 16 inches of snow to the Canton area, according to the National Weather Service.
