PHOTOS: Students Enjoy Skating During Holiday Break

Now that school vacation is over, the regular schedule for ice skating times is back in place.

The Metropolis Skating Rink was a busy place over the school vacation holiday. And it's going to get busier now that the Canton Department of Recreation "Learn to Skate Program" begins on Jan. 8 and will run for eight weeks. The classes will run on Tuesdays: Jan 8, 15, 22 and 29. Feb 5, 12 and 26 and March 5. Sessions are at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.  Fee for residents is $100, and non residents $110. Contact www.cantonrec.com for more information. The public skating schedule is 9:30-11:20 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday evenings from 7-9:15 p.m. Sunday afternoons from 2:30-4:15 p.m. Adults $3 and children $2. 5 Things Dec 12: There is a Special Georgia O'Keeffe Pastel Workshop at the Canton Public Library

There is an Open House at Canton High School for the 8th Grade Class.

5 Things, Nov 12: Veteran's Day Roundup

There will be no school today in honor of Veterans Day.

  1. Canton Public Schools and The Canton Public Library are closed today in recognition of Veterans Day, which took place Sunday. How about going over to the Blue Hills Reservation for a hike up Big Blue? There are miles of trails to explore. You could get a good work out going up and down the ski trail before the snow comes.  2. The Metropolis Skating Rink is open today for public skating from 9:30-11:20 a.m. It's great exercise but dress warm - it's cold in the rink! 3. PHOTOS: Ice Hockey at the Metropolis Skating Rink

  Ice hockey season is in full swing and the Metropolis Rink always has a team or two on the ice. There is public skating weekdays 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. After Thanksgiving there will be Friday night skating from 7:30 - 9:15 p.m. and on Sunday afternoons from 2:30 - 4:15 p.m. Adults: $5. Children: $3. The rink does not rent skates, but they do sharpen your blades. You can contact the rink at 781-575-6660.  Here are some photos from practice on Friday night.

Canton Recreation Dept. Holds Annual Halloween Parade

Ghosts, goblins and a few ghouls marched up Washington Street on Sunday.

The Canton Department of Recreation hosted it's Annual Halloween Parade on Sunday, Oct. 28. The parade began at 1 p.m. in the Bank of Canton parking lot where ghosts, goblins and ghouls gathered for their march up Washington Street to Canton High School. Once at Canton High School, costumed attendees were greeted by D.J. Gary Titus who played some snappy tunes and members of the Canton Recreation staff who passed out goody bags filled with candy along with pumpkin balloons for all the children.

This Weekend in Canton: A Road Race, a Pet Parade and the Town Parade

From a Haunted House in Cobbs Corner to a renowned Road Race, there is plenty happening in the area this weekend!

The Haunted House at the Village Shoppes in Cobbs Corner will be open all weekend from 6-10 p.m. The Hazel Boone Dance Studio is holding a Halloween Costume Party open to all children, boys and girls, ages 3-7 on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at their studio at One New Boston Drive in Canton. You do NOT need to be a student at the studio to attend but be sure you wear a costume as there will be prizes, along with dancing, games and fun. It is a fun and safe place for your little one to take part in some Halloween fun. The cost of admission is $2 and includes snacks and water. 5 Things, Oct 22: Get Physical with Yoga, Biking and Ice Skating

The fall sessions through the Canton Department of Recreation start tomorrow. There's still time to sign up!

1. A game of Mah Jong will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Canton Council on Aging. And then stay for Karoake at 2 p.m. 2. Yoga for Busy Moms starts tomorrow at the Armando Recreation Center from 9-10:15 a.m. Sponsored by the Canton Department of Recreation for ages 18-99. Fee: $96 for residents and $106 non-residents. Class runs for eight weeks. 3. Also starting tomorrow is Yoga for Wise Women at the Armando Recreation Center from 10:30-11:45 a.m. A gentle yoga class for beginners and women over 50 who want to get on the mat safely and securely.
