Safety Fair Returning to Canton

Safety fair coming to Canton for a fun and educational experience.

Canton is holding its annual Summer Fun and Safety Fair ,May 31, and promises to be a day of family fun. The event is sponsored and organized by the board of health and members of the Canton Fire and Police Departments. Food will be provided. The event is designed to be a day of fun and education at Pequitside Farm. It’s free to attend, and features many events including the Childhood ID program, which electronically scans fingerprints. Children are also encouraged to take part in a program where if they participate in the many bike safety booths and demonstrations, they get stickers which they can redeem later for free bike helmets. Canton Fire Department to Hold Sports Injury Clinic

This event will be held at the Canton Public Library and is in conjunction with Brockton Hospital and Dr. Dan Muse, a Canton resident.

The Canton Fire Department, in conjunction with Brockton Hospital and Dr. Dan Muse of Canton, will present a sports injury clinic to Canton youth coaches and parents of Canton students and athletes at the Canton Public Library on Wednesday, April 4 from 6:30- 9 p.m. Muse and Dr. Ken Lawson, his emergency department colleague, will discuss concussion injuries and common sports injuries. The Canton Fire Department will provide an overview and hands on experience with CPR and defibrillator use. This class is free and open to the public.

Canton Fire Department to Sponsor Citizens Fire Academy

The program, offered to Canton residents 18 and older, will run for five weeks. Find out how to learn more.

The Canton Fire Department announced this week that it is sponsoring a Citizens Fire Academy for Canton residents 18 years and older. This program runs for five weeks and begins on Wednesday, May 1. For details to enroll in this program please contact Brian Marshall at 781-575-6654  ext. 114.

Fifth Annual Charity Hockey Benefit to Aid Family of Late Police Officer

All proceeds from this years event will go to the family of Canton Police Officer Ralph Centeno.

On Saturday, March 9, the Fifth Annual Charity Hockey Benefit will take place at the Ponkapoag Ice Rink at 8 p.m. Admission is free and donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds from this year's event will go to the family of Canton Police Officer Rafael Centeno who recently passed away. There benefit will include a chuc-ka-puck contest, auction items, raffles, a live DJ and prizes. The schedule for the event is as follows: Residents looking to make a donation prior to the event can drop them off at the Canton Fire Department on Revere Street.

February 18 1:28 p.m. - A car lock out at Blue Hill Express on Washington Street. February 22 9:53 a.m. - A motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Neponset Street and Rt. 95. Person was transported to the hospital. February 24 8:13 a.m. - A motor vehicle accident just past Exit 4 on Rt. 93 South. Person was transported to the hospital.

Canton Fire, Police: Gov. Patrick's Travel Ban Was Helpful During Storm

Patch spoke with Lt. Brian Marshall and Deputy Chief Helena Findlen

Canton Patch spoke with Lt. Brian Marshall of the Canton Fire Department on Monday in response to how the public safety officials weathered the storm over the weekend. "We had seven extra guys on hand in case there were any mishaps," Marshall said. "Thankfully, the governor banned any cars on the road, which helped immensely in clearing the roads and possible weather related automobile accidents. There were very few power outages and the 30 to 40 calls that we did receive were for carbon monoxide detectors which were blocked by the snow." Deputy Chief Helena Findlen of the Canton Police Department was in agreement, and said, "Gov. Patrick banning all cars on the road was a huge help to us. Canton Fire Log: Live Wire Down, Ramp and Roadway Closed

The following information was provided by the Canton Fire Department.

Monday, Jan. 14 6:16 p.m. - A motor vehicle accident was reported on Royall Street. One person was transported to the hospital. Tuesday, Jan. 15 9:33 p.m. - There was a motor vehicle fire on Rte. I-95 South near Rte. I-93.No injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished. Friday, Jan. 18 10:09 p.m. - A gas investigation was reported underway on Sherman Street, where there was a strong odor of gas coming from the gas meter outside the home. No one was living in the home at the time, according to reports. The gas company made contact with the owners. The water to the house was also turned off.  Sunday, Jan. 20 11:56 a.m. - A power outage was reported when live primary wires fell down on the ramp coming off of Rte. 95 north onto Rte. …

Canton Fire Log: Canton Fire Assist Two Alarm Fire on Churchill Ave. in Stoughton

The following information was provided by the Canton Fire Department daily log.

Monday, Jan. 7 12:25 p.m. - A motor vehicle accident near St. Gerard Majella Church on Washington Street. Person transported to the hospital. 6:25 p.m. - Mutual aid for a fire on Churchill Ave. in Stoughton that left 3 families homeless. There were no injuries but there was extensive damage done to the home. The fire went to two alarm with firefighters from Brockton, Avon and Canton with Sharon and Easton covering the town. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. It took 90 minutes to put the blaze out. Tuesday, Jan. 8 5:12 p.m. - A motor vehicle accident in the vicinity of North End Motors on Turnpike Street. Person was transported to the hospital.

The Canton Fire Department provided mutual aid.  Tuesday, Dec. 25 11:19 a.m. - A structure fire on Rockland Street was reported. 4:08 p.m. - Fire crews received report of a motor vehicle accident on Rte. 93 south and Rte. 138.  Wednesday, Dec. 26 5:57 p.m. - A motor vehicle accident was reported on Rte. 138 in front of the Turnpike Cafe. Persons were transported to the hospital. Thursday, Dec. 27 8:10 a.m. - A motor vehicle accident on Pleasant Street was reported. Canton Fire Log: Structure Fire on Back Deck of home on Summit Ave

The following information was provided by the Canton Fire Department daily log.

  December 11 1:02 a.m. - A motor vehicle traveling at a high speed came up the ramp at Rt. 93 and Rt. 138 taking down the guard rails. The car over turned and the driver miraculously got out of the car unharmed. He was arrested for wreckless driving, speeding, driving with a suspended license. December 12 3:11 p.m. - There was a motor vehicle accident on Bolivar Street, person(s) were transported to the hospital. December 14 12:17 p.m. - There was a structure fire on the back deck of a home on Summit Ave. The homeowner carelessly disposed of ashes from a wood pellet stove which caught on fire.
