The 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts

The event took place this past month at St. John's Church.

On Sunday, Nov. 18, the Canton Girl Scouts attended the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts at St. Johns Church. The troops enjoyed activities and went around to stations to see how Girl Scouts have evolved over time. There was a movie presentation, "The Story of a Girl Scout", a display of Girl Scout handbooks along with a slideshow of Girl Scouts from 100 years ago to the present. Girl Scouts were able to learn the morse code, create ties for their water bottles, how to set up a sleeping bag for camping, how to start a fire and roast marshmallows, the meanings of signal flags and different methods of cooking while camping. Girl Scouts of South Eastern Massachusetts serves more than 41,000 girls ages 5-17 and engages 18,000 adult volunteers …

Canton Girl Scouts Host International Festival

The Girl Scouts held the festival at St. John's.

The Canton Girl Scouts celebrated with some international flair. On February 12, the scouts from Canton and Stoughton came out to celebrate the International Festival held at St. John's Parish Center in Canton. The event attracted a crowd of more than 140. Each year the Girl Scouts host the International Festival in conjunction with World Thinking Day, according to Media Manager Olivia Perry. The girls, dressed in attire that represents the different countries, hosted tables with displays and information from the different countries feautring food and crafts, Perry said. The girls represented 17 countries this year. This year's theme for World Thinking Day was "We can save our planet," Perry said.

Canton Business Helps Girl Scouts with Cookie Delivery

Draper Industries donated space to help the Girl Scouts with their delivery of Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties and more.

It's Girl Scout Cookie time in Canton. Last week, Draper Industries donated their space to the scouts for the big delivery and a total of 760 cases of cookies filled the warehouse.  This season, the Girl Scout Cookies are decked out with a “Be Mine” message. Not only are the treats sweet, but they also support a good cause. Proceeds benefit the Girl Scouts. The group encourages building courage, confidence and character. "Through the cookie sales and other activities, Girl Scouts learn life skills and realize how to live up to their full potential," Media and Public Relations Manager of Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts Allison Rubin said.
