Daily Dose: Run a Mile Today for the OneFund Boston

This is the final night of the art show at Canton High.

1. Get ready for more of the warm muggy weather, according to WHDH-TV. Temperatures are expected to be in 80s with scattered showers/storms possible. Temperatures will be in the low 80s. 2. The "Last Mile" will be held today at the George King Track at Canton High from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The event will benefit the OneFund Boston and will cost $5 to enter. Other donations are also accepted as all proceeds will go to those affected by the Boston Marathon Bombing. The event will feature six one mile heats for people of all ability levels. Questions? Canton High School Senior Discusses First Marathon Experience

After the tragedy on Monday, Joe Sabatino plans to run again next year. Find out what the runner's first Boston Marathon was like in this exclusive Q&A with Canton Patch.

It was a day of firsts for Canton High School senior Joe Sabatino, who ran his first Boston Marathon on Monday. But despite the two explosions that left three dead and about 150 injured, Sabatino, 18, said he plans to run again next year. Canton Patch spoke with Sabatino and asked him to share his story about the 2013 Boston Marathon. Canton Patch: Was this your first marathon? Sabatino: Yes, this was my first-ever marathon. I was running as a bandit which means I was an unofficial runner that waited for everybody who was registered to start and then began my run. I chose not to run in my very last season of track in order to do the marathon. I trained just as any other runner would for it and felt I was in great shape and condition to …

Canton 2013 Town Meeting Warrant Now Available

Today marks the deadline for submission of the Canton Finance Committee to draft a motion for employment contracts to Town Counsel. Town Meeting will take place on Monday, May 13.

Canton's Annual Town Meeting is just a little more than a month away, and to get residents prepared, officials have released the full Town Meeting warrant index.  The document, which can be viewed on the Canton town website or viewed as a PDF filed attached to this article, provides an overview of the 41 articles on this year's warrant.  Town Meeting will take place inside Morse Auditorium at Canton High School on Monday, May 13 at 7 p.m. Important Dates Leading up to Town Meeting:

Scholarship, Award List Now Available to Canton Class of 2013

Students have a wide variety of scholarships and awards to apply for; the list is now available on the Canton Public Schools website.

Seniors at Canton High School looking to apply for scholarships or awards can now view a list of organizations, businesses and individuals offering them on the Canton Public Schools website.  Scholarship committees and the Canton Public Schools do not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, religion, national origin, color or disability in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, according to the announcement.   The list also comprises a brief summary and description of each offering for students to review.  Students are responsible for attaching a copy of their transcript to every application and any recommendation letters that are requested. PHOTOS: A Community Purim Celebration hosted by the Canton Chai Center

The Purim festivities took place on Sunday at Canton High School.

  “Purim in the Shtetl” was this year’s theme for the Purim celebration sponsored by the Canton Chai Center, 900 Washington Street in Canton. Every year on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar the festival of Purim, which means "lots" is celebrated. This year it begins after sundown on Saturday, Feb 23 and ends at nightfall on Feb 24.  Over 2436 years ago in Ancient Persia a man named Hamon had a plot to destroy and annihilate all the Jewish people, young and old, infants and women in a single day. The holiday of Purim commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people from Ancient Persia.   It is observed by public readings of the Megillah also known as the Scroll of Esther, to recount the story of the Purim miracle, sending food gifts to …

The Canton High School Alumni Directory 2012

The Canton High School Alumni Directory has been five years in the works.

  The Canton High School Alumni Directory was first established in 2007. Now the second edition, five years in the works which includes students from years 1869 - 2012 is available and will be presented on Wednesday, Dec. 12 to the principal of Canton High School by The Canton High School Alumni Association. The Alumni Association meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. at the Rodman Center, second floor. Their goals are to build a strong support group, establish a history and to raise funds for Canton High School and their students.
