Canton High Boys' Basketball Team Draws Abington in Postseason

The Canton high boys' basketball team will be traveling to Abington Monday.

  The Canton High boys' basketball team will be opening up the Division 3 South tournament at Abington Monday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m.  Whoever wins that game will be advancing to play at Norton, Wednesday, Feb. 27. Canton qualified for the tournament by the Sullivan Rule, which allows teams with a winning or .500 records against divisional opponents to play in the postseason. The Bulldogs were 7-13 overall and 3-13 against Hockomock League opponents.

Canton High Boys' Basketball Team's Comeback Falls Short at Stoughton

Canton lost 61-55 at Stoughton Wednesday evening.

Led by Joe Bunce-Grenon's 23 points and 16 rebounds, the Stoughton High boys' basketball team built a double-digit lead and held on for a 61-55 victory over Canton Wednesday in Stoughton.  With the win, Stoughton improves to 8-9, needing two wins in its final three regular season games to qualify for the state tournament. Canton falls to 6-11.  With Stoughton trailing 16-15 after a Sam Larson two-pointer midway through the second quarter, Bunce-Grenon took over the game for the remainder of the half, scoring 10 points in the final 3:35 of the second.  The senior captain ripped off eight straight points, including back-to-back three pointers, to turn a one-point deficit into a 23-16 Stoughton lead. Mauro Oliveira hit a three to extend the …

Canton Patch Bulldog Scoreboard

The following is an update on the Canton High athletic teams.

  BOYS' ICE HOCKEY (3-3): The Bulldogs saw their record drop to .500 on the season with a 1-0 loss to Oliver Ames, Wednesday night. David Nolan scored the goal for the Tigers, while Colin Lozzi added the assist. OA goaltender Jimmy Teirney kept the Bulldogs off the scoring sheet with a 41 save effort. On New Year's Eve, the Bulldogs posted a 6-2 win over Norwell, breaking open a 2-2 tie after two periods. Brian Brooks scored two goals, while Michael Denehy, Tony Francescon, Pat Ward and JC Marcone netted single tallies for the Bulldogs. GIRLS' ICE HOCKEY (5-1): The Bulldogs notched their fifth win of the season with a 4-0 victory over Westwood Wednesday.
